Starting with Couch to 5k, Paperclip’s Managing Director, Anne Batty, completed the AJ Bell Bristol half-marathon on Sunday 19 May.
No amount of running along the Chesterfield Canal towpath or the lanes around Ashover could prepare Anne and the other runners for the exceptionally warm weather. At times the temperature reached over 70degF, particularly in the city centres roads as the runners approached the finish.
‘ I was doing really well until about 18km (a half-marathon is just over 21km). Then I reached a small incline and my body just decided enough was enough. The last 3km seemed to go on forever!
I’ve heard from my family and friends supporting me at the event that some other runners weren’t as fortunate as I was, with some needing a helping hand to reach the finish line.
It probably took me about 45 minutes to come round after I finished. My support team was pouring water over my head. forcing isotonic fluids down me, and keeping me in the shade. A short period of recuperation courtesy of St John Ambulance also helped!’
A big thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported me. You were great motivation when things got tough towards the end.’
