When it comes to medical practice management software, there are many options on the market.
I have worked with Cliniko for many years; firstly, as Operations Director for a large podiatry practice and, more recently, as an independent digital marketing consultant. I help private medical practices become more efficient operationally by managing the patient digital journey and more effective in terms of winning and retaining patients.
Although this article is written from a podiatry perspective, the points raised are equally applicable to physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and any number of other healthcare providers.
Medical practice management software: Why choose Cliniko?
Cliniko has recently been ‘Professionally Approved’ by the College of Podiatry.
‘Professionally Approved’ status is only awarded to products and services that meet the College’s strict criteria. Achieving ‘Professionally Approved’ status is an acknowledgement that Cliniko meets stringent professional standards and is at the front of the pack when it comes to innovation.
Cliniko, in its own words, ‘…gives you all the tools you need to easily manage and grow your podiatry practice while freeing up your time to help your patients heal.’
Not only does Cliniko manage your diary, patient appointments, patient records, transactions, telehealth and more, but the development team behind Cliniko has also recently expanded its tracking and reporting functions.
This depth of insight provided by these developments really gives you, as practice owners and managers, the data needed to grow your business. It is this that, in my opinion, sets Cliniko apart from the competition.
Data leads to insight
Whether you are a sole practitioner or lead a multidisciplinary team across multiple sites, understanding your data is one of the pillars on which your success is built.
It is very easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day running of a business but having some key metrics in place that you regularly monitor will help you grow your business. One of Richard Branson’s mantras is ‘Keep it Simple’. You don’t need to measure hundreds of metrics or manage multiple spreadsheets.
For a high-level overview of your business, I recommend Cliniko reports such as the ‘Appointment Schedule’ and ‘Practice Revenue’. These tell you about your turnover and the number of appointments you have fulfilled. Focusing on the number of appointments and the average transaction value per appointment, you have two key metrics on which to build and measure your marketing, rebook/reactivate, and upselling strategies.
To dig a little deeper, I recommend Cliniko’s ‘Practitioner Performance Report’. This report shows the number of appointments that were new, cancelled or ‘did not attend. The report also gives you your rebook rate and average transaction value.
If you are a sole practitioner, the report identifies those areas you need to focus on and highlights the massive positive impact that small changes can have on your business.
If you are leading a team, the report provides clarity with regards to the relative performance of each team member and really empowers you to have productive coaching and mentoring conversations.
Patient Digital Journey
As a society we are, it appears, moving inexorably towards an increasingly digital world; Covid-19 has further accelerated this transition. Consequently, nurturing your patients’ digital experience has become almost as important as creating the perfect patient experience in the clinic.
By way of example, Cliniko’s ‘Appointment & Patients Report’ shows those patients who missed their appointments and those who don’t have any further appointments booked. This data enables you to create an automated strategy to reactivate these patients using third-party apps like Cliniq Apps or a bespoke recall strategy for that personal touch.
Combining the power of Cliniko’s reporting functions with the flexibility of digital marketing, you can create a truly patient-centred digital journey. A journey that provides your patients with the reassurance that they are in safe hands and cared for both inside and outside the clinic environment.
